Book Review: The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson

My Thoughts:

If you love a book, chances are you’re going to read it again.

I blazed through The Captive Maiden in 24hrs for the second time since 2014, which had my husband asking me to close my book a couple of times because I was so glued to the pages. My toddler even took it out of my hands to flip through the pages to see why Mama was so engrossed.

Wow. The characters, detailed research and beautiful writing blew me away. If you love tales of knights (the hero is a wonderful character), damsels in distress (who can take care of herself too when needed), and fairy tale reimaginings, look no further than Melanie’s Hagenheim series. I’m off to re-read The Fairest Beauty!

My Rating:

FIVE stars! Beautifully written! Easy-to-read! Whimsical! Wonderful characters! Page-turner! Great world building! Happily Ever After! Entertaining! Romantic! Action-packed!

Happily Ever After…Or Happily Nevermore?

Gisela’s childhood was filled with laughter and visits from nobles such as the duke and his young son. But since her father’s death, each day has been filled with nothing but servitude to her stepmother. So when Gisela meets the duke’s son, Valten—the boy she has daydreamed about for years—and learns he is throwing a ball, she vows to attend, even if it’s only for a taste of a life she’ll never have. To her surprise, she catches Valten’s eye. Though he is rough around the edges, Gisela finds Valten has completely captured her heart. But other forces are bent on keeping the two from falling further in love, putting Gisela in more danger than she ever imagined.
